Who we are
The Quiet Ink is a product line of The Balanced Look Ltd, a New Zealand company based in Auckland. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean The Balanced Look Ltd.
We respect your privacy and follow the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020. If you have any question about your information, please email hello@thebalancedlook.com.
What we collect
When you place an order: your name, email address, phone number (if you give one), billing and shipping address, and what you ordered.
When you send a gift: the name and address of the person you are sending it to.
When you sign up to our newsletter: your email address.
When you email us: your message and anything you choose to include, such as a photo of a damaged item.
When you visit the website: information about your visit, such as pages viewed, the device and browser you use, and how you arrived, collected through cookies (see below).
Card payments are handled by Squarespace Payments. We never see or store your full card details.
Why we collect it
To process, pack and deliver your order, and to send you order and tracking emails.
To help with returns, faults and any questions you send us.
To send our newsletter, including the Sunday passage and offers, if you have signed up. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.
To understand how the website is used, so we can improve it, and to measure our advertising.
To keep the business records required by New Zealand law, such as tax records.
Gift orders
If you send a journal straight to someone else, you give us their name and address. We use it only to deliver your gift, and the parcel contains no prices. Please let them know that you have shared their details with us for this purpose.
Who we share it with
We only share your information with the services we need to run the shop:
Squarespace, which hosts our website and online store and sends our emails.
Squarespace Payments, to take card and wallet payments securely, and Klarna if you choose to pay with Klarna.
GoSweetSpot and the courier chosen for your parcel, such as NZ Post, NZ Couriers or Post Haste, to deliver your order.
Google (Google Analytics) and Meta (Facebook and Instagram), to understand website visits and measure our advertising.
Some of these providers store information outside New Zealand, for example in the United States. We use well-known providers that protect personal information to a standard comparable to New Zealand law.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with anyone else unless the law requires us to.
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored on your device. Some are needed for the website and cart to work. Others, from Squarespace, Google Analytics and the Meta pixel, help us understand how the site is used and measure our advertising. You can clear or block cookies at any time in your browser settings.
How we keep it safe, and for how long
Your information is stored on secure platforms, and only the people who run the shop can access our store records. We keep order records for seven years, as New Zealand tax law requires. We keep your newsletter email address until you unsubscribe.
If a privacy breach ever happened that was likely to cause serious harm, we would tell you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, as the law requires.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it. Email hello@thebalancedlook.com and we will reply within 20 working days.
If you are not happy with how we have handled your information, please contact us first so we can put it right. You can also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date it was last updated.
